Braided fishing line?

I recently put 110 yds. of 20 lb test Spider Wire braided fishing line on my pole. It works fine but doesn't cast as far as some other poles i have that have braided line. I noticed that the ring on the top of the reel that holds the line in is a lot wider that the spool is full. If i filled up the spool with alot of heavy line and put the braided on top, would it cast better? I think it would because it wouldnt hit the thing holding it in as it got casted out, but I'm not sure. Thanks!
