Her 'gift' needs to be introduced so that the reader knows what they're getting themselves into. You don't want its introduction to be too abrupt. The best way is to introduce it through your MC's point of view...have it be something that is a mystery to her, and explain it to the reader through your MCs exploration of the 'gift'.
